Russell Clark Richardson Sr. also known to many as Mr. Yankee, of Goshen Road in Williamsburg, died peacefully on Wednesday February 15th, 2023, at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds at the age of 90.
Russ was born in Goshen, MA on July 29, 1932 and was the son of the late Augstus H. Richardson and Lizzie E. (Warren) Richardson. He was educated in Goshen.
Russ starting working for the Florence Casket Company from 1950-1952 before his enlistment in the United States Army on October 15, 1952 and honorably served during the Korean War as a heavy weapons infantryman with Company D 30th Infantry out Fort Benning, GA until his discharge on October 14 of 1955. He also served as the Commander of Voyager 474 of the 40/8th infantry. He received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
Russ worked for the Texon Corp in Russell for 36 years, Florence Savings Bank for for 61/2 years and part time for the Towns of Goshen and Williamsburg for many years. He was an active member of the Haydenville American Legion Post #236. He was a man with a very strong work ethic, loved polka dancing, the Eddie Forman Polka Orchestra and a devoted New York Yankee fan.
Russ fondly leaves his niece; Jackie Massicot and her husband Art, nephew; Floyd Richardson, great niece; Ashley Dempsey, devoted and caring friends, neighbors; Gary Linscott, Karen Karowski and Jeffrey T. Ovitt. Russ was predeceased by his two sons; Russell C. Richardson Jr. and Michael C. Richardson, 3 brothers; Robert, Raymond, Lester, 3sisters; Ruth, Helen and Florence.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 6th at The First Congregational Church of Williamsburg with calling hours from 9:30-11am followed by the Service at 11am. A Celebration of Life Service for Russ featuring the Eddie Forman Orchestra is scheduled for Saturday, June 10th at 1pm at the Haydenville American Legion Post 236, 5 Bridge Street, Haydenville.
