Frederick Paul Speckels of Huntington died on December 3, 2021 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital at the age of 77. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of William and Helen Speckels (Sudnik) of Northampton.
Frederick grew up on Long Island and moved to Huntington, Massachusetts after serving his country in Vietnam. After graduating from Chaminade High School on Long Island, he graduated from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. He served in Vietnam from 1966-1967 as a Combat Photographer in the U. S. Marine Corps. He worked at WWLP-TV as Chief News Photographer for 13 years, and owned Tele-Commercial Productions, a TV commercial and video production company, for over 20 years.
Frederick was devoted to his family and enjoyed salt and fresh water fishing, hunting, and sports. He was also an avid reader and liked to write poetry. Fred was a parishioner of the former St. Thomas Church in Huntington, for many years, where he and Helen were married, all three children were baptized, and oldest son, Paul, was married.
Frederick is predeceased by his parents: William and Helen Speckels of Northampton; and his two sisters: Christine Fontaine of Florida, and Katherine Proctor of Vermont.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Helen of 45 years, and their three sons: Paul Speckels and his wife, Lucille, and grandchildren Tommy, Max, Theo and Annabelle of Westfield; Stephen Speckels and his wife, Jennifer, and grandson Frederick of Huntington; Christopher Speckels of Chester; and his sister, Judith Speckels of Easthampton; and his aunt, Aurelia Sudnik of Northampton. He also leaves several nieces and nephews of Vermont, Florida and Switzerland.
The family appreciates the care given to Frederick by the staff of Cooley Dickinson Hospital and Linda Manor. At the family's request, donations in lieu of flowers are requested in Frederick's Memory to Our Lady of the Valley Parish, C/O Beautification Fund, 33 Adams Street, Easthampton, MA. 01027
