Frederick Russell Hoffer, 75 of Easthampton, passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2022. Fred was born to the late Russell and Mary Hoffer on March 12, 1947 in Jersey Shore PA. He grew up there with his two sisters, Karen Aucker (Kerry) and Sandy Hoffer. He attended High School in Jersey Shore and graduated Williamsport Community College with an Assoc. Degree in Electronics.
He leaves his wife Therese Hoffer and their daughter Rebecca Hoffer and two children from a previous marriage, Frederick Hoffer (Jennifer) and Theresa Hoffer O’Brien (Dennis). He also leaves 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
After college he moved to California where he served in the Navy on submarines for six years during the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his time in the military and talked about it often. He was a member of the Legion Riders in Easthampton.
Fred had a passion for sports, he umpired softball and refereed basketball for 35+ years. He enjoyed being an active part of the games and the people that were involved. His favorite pastime at home was reading and watching old war movies. Anyone that knew him knows he loved to talk and tell stories.
The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given to us by Baystate Hospice. In lieu of flowers please send all donations to Easthampton Park and Recreation (for softball fields), 1 Daley Field Rd., Easthampton MA 01027. A Memorial service will be held on November 19, 2022 at 10:00am, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2 Clark Street, in Easthampton.
