Douglas James McNeish, 86, died peacefully at his residence in Easthampton on early Wednesday morning, June 9, 2021 with beloved wife Peggy at his side. Doug was born in Northampton on March 11,1935 and he was the son of the late John and Gladys (Fiander) McNeish. He was raised and educated in the Northampton and was a graduate from Northampton High School in the class of 1953.

In October of 1953 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served with the 1st Marine Division during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1956. Doug married the love of his life, Margaret Lois Hiss on March 2, 1957. Upon his return from serving his country Doug entered the work force for the telephone company, this became a life long career that lasted thirty seven years retiring as the Operations Manager for New England Telephone/Verizon in 1993. With his wife "Peggy” he wintered in Florida, traveled extensively and enjoyed spending time with family & friends. He was a communicant of the Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton.

Doug was involved with many civic organizations in his lifetime including, the Dalton Lavalley American Legion Post #224, Easthampton Town Meeting Member, 1st Cable TV Committee, Telephone Pioneers, Easthampton Lions Club former President, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Easthampton Little League coaching and umpiring for many years. Upon his retirement he continued to volunteer for several not for profit organizations in Florida, including, Florida Wildlife, Chairman for the Senior Winter Olympics and the Helping Hand Society. He was an avid golfer and sports fan, cheering on the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and the Boston College Eagles.

Douglas leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty four years, Margaret Lois (Hiss) McNeish. He is also survived by his three children and their families; James McNeish, Joseph McNeish, Patty (McNeish) Hill and daughter in laws; Dianna McNeish wife of the late John McNeish and Beth Illingsworth. His cherished grandchildren; Karly, Erin, Lauren, Kristina, Amanda and her husband Marc, Ian, Miranda and her husband Anthony, Ethan, Shane, Emily, Anna and two great grandsons; Henri and Andre. He also leaves behind a large extended family who loved him dearly.

Douglas was a wonderful man and a friend to all who knew him.
