Dorothy Filipkowski Sojkowski, wife of the late Stephen Sojkowski, gracefully drifted into Gods loving embrace Christmas Eve morning surrounded by close friends and family.
Born August 9th 1931 and raised in South Deerfield, she was educated in the public schools of the area. She attended Doers Acadamy of Hairdressing, graduating in 1951. Dorothy worked many years as a hairdresser until her retirement in 1987.
Dorothy married Stephen Sojkowski in Saint Stanislaus Church in South Deerfield in 1955. They spent their first years on Plain Street in Easthamton. They eventually settled on Davis Street in Easthampton where love and hard work provided comfortable homes for themselves and their son, Stephen his wife Susan (nee Dragon) and their three children.
Dorothy was a devout parishioner of the Catholic Church in Easthampton; most recently Sacred Heart and Our Lady of the Valley parishes. She enjoyed working in the kitchen of Sacred Heart for the Polish Picnic making perogi and galumki for the Parish festival. She was also a greeter for Sunday mass and volunteered for other functions within the church. Dorothy was a member of the Holy Rosary Sedalidy. She also enjoyed baking, especially fruit cakes and cookies during the holiday season, generously sharing the goodies with her family and friends.
Dorothy and her loving husband Stephen enjoyed many years of Polka dancing to the Eddy Forman Orchestra eventually becoming friends with Eddy and his wife Carol. Dorothy and Stephen traveled across western Mass to attend polish polka dances. Their favorite was the annual Sacred Heart Parish festival where they could be seen smiling together as spectators as well as ciricling the dance floor. Their enthusiasm for the tradition eventually drew their grandchildren and great grandchildren onto the dance floor with them!
Dorothy is survived by her sister Janet and brother in law Bill Ciulewicz, lovely sister in law Sophie Filipkowski, retired son Stephen Sojkowksi, her god daughter Lynn and her husband Rob. Dorothy also leaves behind three grandchilden and their families: Daniel and Lindsey Sojkowski with their three children Austin, Elliott and Genevieve, of Westhampton MA; Bryan and Shannon Sojkowski with their three children Isla, Finn and Yara of Easthampton MA; and Katie and Kevin WIlby and their son Stephen of Duxbury MA. Dorothy, was the daughter of the late Julian Pekarski and George Filipkowski predeceased by her two brothers Joseph and Zigmond Filipkowski.
