Donald Philip Cote, age 88, formerly of Emerald Place in Easthampton, died peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Renaissance Manor on Cabot Street in Holyoke. Don was born in Northampton on June 21, 1935 and was the son of the late Mabel (Parsisson) and Philip J. Cote.
He was raised and educated in Northampton and and graduated with the class of 1953 from Northampton High School. After his graduation from Northampton High, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and he was a Korean War Veteran, serving from October 1953- October 1956. In August of 1961 he enlisted in the the United States Air Force and he also was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving until his honorable discharge in August of 1965. Returning from his military career, Don then entered the work force as a machine operator for his entire career, at Packaging Corporation of America for thirty five years, retiring in 2000.
Don was married in 1972 to Thelma E. (Pendergast) Cote and together they celebrated thirty years of marriage together until her death of June 9th, 2002. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton. Don was avid golfer and truly enjoyed his time on the course with many of his golfing buddies. He was also a member of the Dalton Lavalle American Legion Post # 224 in Easthampton.
Donald is survived by his two sisters; Joanne M. Parsons and her husband Edward, Mary T. Stephan, two step daughters; Pamela A. Wright of Easthampton and Cassandra L. McDermott and her husband Leonard of Hingham, his three cherished grandchildren; Alison, Connor and Riley. His longtime partner; Shirley P. Malouin of Easthampton and to his best friends, Paul and Lenny, who would enjoy their weekly trips every Saturday to Southampton Dunkin' Donut's. Special thanks to the Staff of thee Renaissance Manor on Cabot for their wonderful care, love and support they provided to Don and Family.
