Claudia Fern (LaValley) Barnas

Claudia Fern (LaValley) Barnas, age 76, died on Friday April 1, 2022 in Springfield at Baystate Medical Center after a brief period of failing health. Claudia was born in Northampton on April 4,1945, one of eight children to the late Geraldine Golda (LaFlam) LaValley and Alfred Oliver LaValley.

She was educated in the local public schools before entering the work force. On July 12th of 1963 she married the love of her life Richard Barnas Sr and they settled in Chesterfield, there they raised their family. Together they celebrated forty seven years of marriage until Richards death on October 23, 2010. Claudia worked at home, as a stay at home mom and also worked for the Hilltown Medical Center in Worthington and Huntington in janitorial service department until retiring in 2002. In her free time, she loved being with her grandchildren, gardening, crocheting, knitting, cross stitching, quilting, a talent that she shared with her daughter Claudette.

Claudia is survived by her loving family, daughter; Claudette Gagne and son in law, Adam Gagne of Goshen, son; Richard Barnas Jr. of Chesterfield, grandchildren; Joseph Gagne and Joshua Barnas, three brothers; Kevin W. LaValley, Larry D. LaValley and Michael D. LaValley. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard Barnas Sr. a son, Claude Peter Barnas, a brother, Alfred J. LaValley Sr. and three sisters, Corine Banner, Susan Sedergren and Gladys Roberts.
