Charles D. Reutt Sr. age 94, passed away peacefully July 27, 2020 at Holyoke Health Center of complications from Covid 19 where he resided for one and a half years. Charles also fondly known as Dan, Charlie, Sonny and Doc was born in Springfield, MA July 11, 1926 to Domenic Reutt and Sophie (Soverow) Reutt. He had one sister, Bette Malik (deceased) who he adored.
Dan grew up in Springfield and West Springfield. He attended Putnam Trade School. Dan enlisted in the US Navy and served two years as a Baker on a Destroyer Ship. He received an honorable discharge.
Dan was married briefly to Dorothy Simon in Bayonne New Jersey. Dan and Dorothy had one daughter, Beverly. After his marriage ended Dan returned to Springfield, MA and met the love of his life, Jeannine (Thomas) Reutt who he referred to as “My Sweet Bride”. They were happily married for fifty-five years up until Jeannine’s death.
Dan and Jeannine resided in Feeding Hills MA where they raised five children, Beverly, Cynthia, Janice, Charles Reutt Jr (Charlie) and Nancy. Dan was a devoted husband and father. The Reutt family have many happy memories of boating, fishing, visiting relatives, going to the beach, and so many other things.
Dan was a top notch mechanic. He worked at former Leader Chevrolet and Allen Lawnmower Co. and later had his own small garage in West Springfield. He could repair most anything and had abundance of patience.
Dan had a great sense of humor. He loved helping people and had many friends. He was not a religious person but was a very kind, generous and loving person. His favorite interests were boating and fishing. He had a favorite brook in Southwick where he spent countless hours fishing for trout and enjoying nature. He enjoyed old country music like Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Johnny Cash, etc.
Dan is survived by his five children and their spouses: Beverly Kagan and Alfred Kagan, of Chicopee; Cynthia Chamberland and Alfred Chamberland, of Easthampton; Janice Reutt Robey and Stephen Robey, of Silver Spring, MD; Charles Reutt Jr. and Stacey Reutt, of Feeding Hills; and Nancy Cipriani and Mark Cipriani, f Southampton; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Dan will be cremated and his remains will be lovingly placed in the urn with Jeannine. A memorial service will be held at a later date and Dan and Jeannine’s ashes will be placed in their favorite fishing sp
