Alice F. Richardson (Roberts), 77, of 121 County Rd. Huntington, MA, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center. Alice was born in Hartford, CT on D-Day, June 6, 1944 to Calvin Roberts and Leone Wood. Her parents were Vermonters who settled in Huntington so Alice lived in Huntington and spent a portion of her time in Putney, VT.
Alice graduated from Huntington High School in 1962, then from Western Massachusetts Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She stayed on at Western MA Hospital working as a staff nurse. She married in 1964 and went on to spend the remainder of her career doing in-home elder care for terminally ill patients. For 20 years she also fostered medically compromised newborn babies through Northampton Family Services.
Alice was the first female to qualify for rifle range and enjoyed hunting deer with her family in Vermont. She was an avid snowmobiler who enjoyed traveling to Vermont and West Yellowstone Montana to challenge the trails. Alice was extremely active in bowling. She belonged to the Greater Springfield Women’s Bowling Association for 37 years. She served 9 of those years as a director and 8 years as the president. She was a delegate to the national bowling convention in Reno, NV for 5 years. She was also a certified lane inspector. Alice was a very talented bowler with a high game of 279, and in 1989, she won the Green Mountain Open Tournament with a high score of 707. She belonged to the Women’s WIBC 600 and 700 clubs. In 2005 Alice was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame.
In her younger years, Alice drove trucks for Donovan Sand and Gravel. She also worked with the Massachusetts Turnpike crew doing cliff construction. Alice was the grounds keeper for the Norwich Bridge Cemetery in Huntington. She not only mowed and trimmed the grounds, she also cleaned and restored monuments. All of the restoration of this 18th century cemetery was realized through Alice’s hard work and dedicated efforts, included was her donation of the iron fence that surrounds the cemetery.
To honor her memory, she leaves her husband, Gordon and her three children, Linda Lee Richardson, Bonita Amy Kubacki (Roman), and Calvin Paul Richardson (Kathy). She was pre-deceased by her daughter Dawn Richardson (Terry Palmer). She leaves her siblings Bonita Pease (Robert), Linda Emmonds (Roger pre-deceased) and Thomas Roberts (Susan). She also leaves eight grandchildren. Timothy Dali (Dan), Lindsey Kubacki, (Nick), Stephanie Richardson, Kayla Bresnahan (Bentley), Dr. Calvin Carrington, Abigayle Jerusik (John), Christy McCray (Catherine), And Alice Jane Kubacki (James). She leaves eight great grandchildren. She also leaves her lifelong friend, Dr. Jane Martone. She will be missed by her fur baby Sabrina and her foster fur baby, Sam.
Alice was a member of the Pioneer Valley Assembly of God church in Huntington. Her fellow parishioners and pastors held Alice in high regard and great affection. Her services will be held at the church. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 am on Saturday, January 29th. The service will follow. Former pastor, Re. Toby Quirk will officiate. A reception will immediately follow in the lower church. For those wishing, donations may be made to the church. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family. Graham Hilltown Community Funeral Home will be in charge.
