Easthampton- John Joseph Sheehan, age 83, a lifelong resident of Garfield Ave, died
on Wednesday August 29, 2018 after a brief period of declining health at the Linda
Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds. He was born in Northampton at Cooley Dickinson
Hospital on September 15, 1934 the son of the late Earl Joseph and Anna (Clair) Sheehan.
John was a life long resident of Easthampton and was educated at the former Immaculate
Conception Parochial Grammar School and graduated from Easthampton High School in
the class of 1953. He played first base for the Eagles Baseball team as well for the Post
#224 American Legion Team of Easthampton. After completing his schooling John entered
into the Banking Industry, starting off as Teller, working his way up to a Branch Manager
and worked for many institutions including, Valley Bank, Vanguard Bank, BayBank and
Fleet Bank over his forty year career.
John was a devoted communicant his entire life to the Immaculate Conception Parish/
Our Lady of the Valley Parish of Easthampton and served on many committees within
parish in bookkeeping, finance, head collector, counter and a member of the former Holy
Name Society. He also was very civic minded and was a former member of the Jaycees
of Easthampton serving as its President, Easthampton Little League Board of Directors,
Community Preservation Act Board, recording secretary for the Easthampton Parks and
Recreation Commission for over thirty years. John was very proud of his Irish heritage and
was a very active member of the Greater Easthampton St. Patricks Day Parade Commitee
serving as their treasurer for many years. In 1999, John was a proud recipient of the
Gallagher-Walker Award and was the Parade Marshal for the Easthampton contingent.
He was a true New England Sports fan and loved his Red Sox. John also enjoyed traveling
and looked forward to his three weeks of vacation at Cape Cod.
John is survived by two cousins; Margaret Lavallee of South Hadley, Edith O'Neill of
Holyoke along with many dear friends.
A Funeral Liturgy of Christian Burial for John will be held on Wednesday, September
5th at 10am at the Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton, followed by burial at
family gravesite at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Northampton. Calling hours will be held
on Tuesday September 4th from 3-6pm at the Graham Funeral Home & Cremation
