James "Jim" Doppman Obituary

Florence - James Patrick Doppman, age 82, of Florence, passed away on November 19, 2018 after a brief period of declining health at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds. He was born at the laying-in hospital in the Florence section of Northampton on May 17, 1936 the son of the late Joseph James and Hazel (White) Doppman. James was a lifelong resident of Florence and educated at the former Annunciation Grammar School and graduated from St. Michael’s High School in the class of 1954. After graduation, James enlisted in the Army from 1959-1961. James worked at the former Pro Brush Company for 51 years working his way up to shipping supervisor, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed softball, bowling, golf, and biking. He was an avid Boston sports fan and passed this love to his children and grandchildren.

 

He was a member of the Haydenville American Legion, Post 236 for 38 years. James had an easy going personality and an infectious smile for all he met. James played Texas Hold Em every other Friday with four of his closest childhood friends.


James was a loving husband and father. He met his wife Alice B. Doppman in 1998. They were married on May 13, 2000 in Hadley. They enjoyed vacations in Cape Cod and Maine.

 

James was a loving and devoted father to his children Terry M. Major and her husband John, William J. Doppman, Debbie A. Preston and her husband Patrick, Dorothy J. Yagodzinski, Lori A. Allanach and her husband Mark, and Peter J. Doppman and his wife Lori. James is survivied by his 11 cherished grand children; Joey Major, Caitlyn Kinder, Alec Doppman, Samantha and Benjamin Preston, Katie Dunn, Jessica, Marco, and Rachel Allanach, and Jennifer and Jaimilee Bontempi. He leaves his brothers, Richard and his wife Jackie and John and his partner Claudette, his sister-in-law Gloria along with six nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Doppman.


A funeral service for James will be held on Friday, November 30th at 2pm at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetary in Agawam. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 27th from 3-6pm at the Graham Funeral Home, 18 Adams Street, Easthampton, whom honorably and proudly has been entrusted with providing for James’ care and services.
