Easthampton- Gertrude Elizabeth (Destromp) Houle, age 86, died peacefully at the Loomis House

in Holyoke on Wednesday May 2, 2018 after a brief period of declining health.

She was born in Holyoke, MA on September 28, 1931 the daughter of the late Ulric and Elizabeth

(Couture) Destromp. She was raised and educated in Holyoke at the former Immaculate Conception

School, West Street School, High Street School before graduating from Holyoke High School.

Gertrude was married in Holyoke at the Immaculate Conception Church, on January 7, 1950 to

Normand J. Houle and they had recently celebrated 65th wedding anniversary before his death on

January 15, 2015. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton.

She loved many hobbies and interests, knitting, crocheting, stain glass making, painting, tending to

her vegetable and flower gardens, cooking, baking, and she spent countless hours working on her

family genealogy.

Gertrude is survived her loving and devoted children; a son David N. Houle and his wife Nancy of

Southampton, two daughters, Elizabeth Annette Fitzgerald and her husband David of Lee, Sandra

Ann Houle of Easthampton, five grandchildren; Corrie Houle and her companion John Molinary,

Brandon Fitzgerald and his wife Chelsie, Katie Houle, Erin Fitzgerald, Mason Rock, two great

grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Norman, she was also pre

deceased by 5 brothers; Alfred Destromp, Ernest Destromp, Albert Destromp, Leon Destromp,

Leonard Destromp and 6 sisters; Irene Richards, Bertha Bessette, Doris Lenarczyk, Emile Destromp,

Pearl Rydzak, Anna Carroll.

A Funeral Liturgy of Christian Burial for Gertrude will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10a.m.

at Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton. Burial will follow at St. Brigid's Cemetery. Calling

hours will be held on Monday May 7, 2018 from 3 to 7pm at the Graham Funeral Home & Cremation

Services, 18 Adams Street in Easthampton, whom has honorably and proudly been entrusted with

providing for Gertrude's services. In Lieu of flowers, donations have been requested in her memory,
